What Are Wool Pellets?

Wool pellets are a natural, slow-release soil amendment made from 100% sheep wool. The wool is sheared and pelletized into an easy-to-use form that improves soil health while gently feeding plants over time.

Unlike synthetic fertilizers that deliver nutrients all at once, wool pellets work gradually, supporting steady growth while also improving moisture retention in the soil.

They’re safe, sustainable, and designed to work with nature — not against it.

  • Improves Moisture Retention

Absorbs and slowly releases water to plant roots.

  • Enhances Soil Health

Improves soil structure and aeration as it breaks down.

  • Sustainable and Biodegradable

Made from renewable wool - no plastics.

  • Slow-Release Nutrients

Naturally contains nitrogen, potassium, and trace nutrients

How Wool Pellets Work

When added to soil, wool pellets:

  • Slowly release nitrogen, potassium, and micronutrients as they naturally break down
  • Absorb and hold up to three times their weight in water, helping soil stay moist longer
  • Reduce watering frequency, especially in hot or dry conditions
  • Improve soil structure and aeration
  • Repel slugs and snails naturally
  • Biodegrade within about 6 months, leaving no waste behind

This makes them especially helpful for gardeners looking to conserve water and build healthier soil over time.

What Are Wool Pellets Used For?

Wool pellets are incredibly versatile and can be used anywhere plants need healthier soil and consistent moisture.

They are commonly used for:

  • Garden beds and raised beds
  • Houseplants and potted plants
  • Trees, shrubs, and perennials
  • Vegetable gardens and flower beds
  • Landscaping and outdoor containers

Simply mix the pellets into the soil at planting time or work them into existing soil around established plants.

Wherever plants grow, wool pellets go!

About Us

New Liberty Wool Pellets is a veteran-owned and operated sheep ranch located in the picturesque landscape of Western Colorado. Following 26 years of honorable service in the United States Marine Corps, Robert and his family relocated back to the Western Slope of Colorado to embark on a new chapter of their lives.

This journey began unexpectedly one afternoon when Robert struck up a conversation with a local sheep rancher. Curious about the art of sheep raising, Robert asked how to get started. The rancher, without hesitation, reached down, picked up two bummer lambs, and handed them over. That simple gesture "accidentally" set the wheels in motion for what would become a life-changing endeavor.

The early years on the ranch were filled with challenges, loss, and hard-earned lessons. The learning curve was steep, requiring perseverance and adaptability. Yet, those trials laid the foundation for a deeply rewarding lifestyle. Today, the flock brings a sense of peace and purpose to the family, symbolizing the harmony and resilience that sheep inherently embody.

Sheep are remarkable animals, offering a range of byproducts, among which wool stands out as a favorite. At New Liberty Wool Pellets, we take immense pride in sustainability. Our practices include rotational grazing, water conservation, and practical husbandry, all aimed at nurturing the land and the animals we care for. By implementing best practices and constantly seeking process improvements, we ensure that animal welfare remains our highest priority.

This commitment to sustainability and respect for the land and livestock drives everything we do. The journey from military service to shepherding has been unexpected but profoundly fulfilling, and we are honored to share the fruits of this labor with others who value quality, care, and connection to nature.
